1944–1945 telén a magyar nyilasok több száz zsidót, ellenállót és katonaszökevényt lőttek le a Dunának ezen a szakaszán. A Magyar mártír emlékmű (nevében edetileg a magyar szó is szerepel) azért épült, hogy emlékeztessen erre a véráldozatra. Érdemes egy kicsit leülni, emlékezni, és egy pillanatra elgondolkodni.
A helyszínen található szoborkompozíció címe Mártírok emlékműve, melynek eredeti változatát Makrisz Agamemnon készítette 1959-ben, és 1964-ban helyezték el a mauthauseni koncentrációs táborban emlékezésként az áldozatokra. During the winter of 1944-1945, hundreds of Jews, resistance fighters, and deserters were shot along this stretch of the Danube. The Hungarian Martyrs Memorial (the word "Hungarian" is included in its name) was erected to commemorate this blood sacrifice. It is worth taking a moment to sit down, remember, and reflect on this.
The title of the sculpture composition found at the site is "Memorial of Martyrs," originally created by Agamemnon Makrisz in 1959 and placed in the Mauthausen concentration camp in 1964 as a remembrance for the victims.
