A mermaid skirt fits snugly from the waist to below the knees, and then flares out at the bottom. Also known as a fishtail skirt, the mermaid skirt or dress first appeared at the end of the 19th century, though it wasn’t until 1930 that designer Marcel Rochas popularized it on haute couture catwalks. Mermaid dresses became a favored type of many actresses in the 1950s, including Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth.
Wouldn’t it be more interesting — at least to us Geocachers — if lamp post skirts came in as many different varieties/styles as women’s skirts?
