Geocache Description:

Church Micro 6807...Bow Brickhill

This cache has been placed to bring you to the church of All Saints in Bow Brickhill.

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE PUBLISHED COORDINATES. The cache is placed on public land and is not in the churchyard.

The first church on the site is likely to have been built in the 12th century and a major renovation took place in the 15th.

The church is notable for its prominent position at the top of the steep hill, which proved useful in the Napoleonic era, when the tower was used as a telegraph station. It proved useful again in the War, when the tower was used by the Royal Observer Corps. Despite this position it is quite difficult to see, especially in the summer, as it is much higher than the surrounding roads and is mainly hidden by trees and steep banks.

The church is built from sandstone rubble, taken from the Greensand Ridge escarpment upon which it is built.

The church was unused for much of the 17th and 18th centuries before being restored by Browne Willis. The church has quite a history of being extended and restored.

The bells and their framework are in bad condition, so the four hanging bells can't be used.

The cache is placed on public land and is not in the churchyard.
