The cache is placed on the Big Ben Trail in Fall Creek (technically the Fall Creek Unit of Henry Cowell Redwoods SP). This trail travels through a part of the forest that was burned in the 2020 CZU fire, but the forest has recovered well. It's shady and beautiful. The whole top section of the trail is full of a plant that my plant app identified as blue blossom ceanothus, which is a variety of California lilac. I don't remember there ever being this much of it before the fire, but it's thriving now. I hope it's healthy for the forest.
There are a lot of charred trees and stumps along the trail. This "charred grove" is right next to the trail and I thought it was especially pretty. It's directly across the trail from a tall tree with a strange bend in it. The cache is a small plastic jar hidden in a common style.
The nearest entrance is on Empire Grade. Fall Creek hours are sunrise to sunset. Dogs and bicycles are not allowed in Fall Creek. Happy hunting!
