The cache is placed on the Big Ben Trail in Fall Creek (technically the Fall Creek Unit of Henry Cowell Redwoods SP). This trail travels through a part of the forest that was burned in the 2020 CZU fire, but the forest has recovered well, and it's shady and beautiful. There are a lot of burned stumps and trees in this area, but this "blackened stump" is one of the biggest I've ever seen! This tree must have been massive. I'm pretty sure it was already a stump well before the fire, though.
The cache is a small plastic jar hidden next to, but not inside of the stump. The nearest entrance is on Empire Grade. Fall Creek hours are sunrise to sunset. Dogs and bicycles are not allowed in Fall Creek. Happy hunting!
