Happy Leap Day!
I couldn't resist the opportunity to place a cache or two, or four, on such a rare date! I've been thinking about this spot for a while and decided to commemorate the 2024 quadrennial by finally requesting to add some smiley fodder at this awesome park!
My two kids and I really enjoyed attending the Frog Festival that used to be held here each April. Aside from being lots of fun, coming to the festival also helped them complete their Wake County Parks Junior Naturalist Challenge the year they were working on that. Pretty sure I've even caught sight of Signal in the crowd, partying it up and dancing to the live music! So when I was brainstorming about potential Leap Day caches, Crowders County Park naturally lept to mind 😁
This cache was placed with permission from park staff. Please be respectful of the area and obey all park rules. Also, do not search for this cache while the park is closed. The hours change throughout the year, obviously open later when daylight hours are longer. It's a good idea to check when you arrive (or even beforehand) what time the park opens and closes on the day of your visit.
If you follow the greenway trail past the picnic tables, playground and bathrooms, you'll find you're only a hop, skip and a leap away from the turtle pond. Chances are you'll catch a glimpse of some terrific terrapins 🐢 if you hang-out around the little bridge on the southwest side of the pond.
Please remember that this is a nature preserve and a research area, so be extra careful driving on the roads and conscientious while observing the wildlife.
The cache is a small, camo'd wing-lock box with room for a mini log-pad, small pencil and a few random goodies to kick-off the swag swap. There's also a FTF wooden nickel for the lucky first finder, so be sure to snag that before you pack everything back up!
I hope you enjoy your time at this beautiful oasis ... and if you haven't already, you can pick-up the other three hides here at Crowders!
Everyone have fun, stay safe and hoppy caching 🐸
**Congratulations to Cary Owl for snagging FTF honors!**
