Shamelessly borrowed the idea for this Geo-Art from Fick's Fizzy in South Dakota (thanks SoDakZak). However, instead of building it with armchair solved puzzles I've employed a mix of Traditional, Letterbox, Mystery, Multi-cache and Wherigo caches intended to force the cacher (experienced and beginners) to get outdoors for a little adventure. Sometines the adventure will involve driving a dusty backroad and then jumping out to search the branches of a cedar tree. And sometimes it will involve taking a water bottle and snack along as you hike rustic trails along Perry Lake. There will even be a few opportunities to employ your favorite TOTT's (ladder, reaching pole & boat). Bottom line, don't expect to complete the Fizzy with 1 or 2-days of driving.
This is a Letterbox Hybrid cache that provides general directions and employs clues to guide the cacher to the container. Stage 1 is at the posted coordinates and you don't even have to leave your vehicle. Just look east and you'll see an short, orange & white warning pole in the ditch. Best to take a photo of it as you'll use data from the lettering on the pole to calculate the coordinates for stage 2. Specifically use the letters on the vertical Orange on Black word and convert them to numbers (e.g. A=1, B=2...Y=25 & Z=26). Apply those numbers to the following calculations to solve a field puzzle and locate the stage 2 container at N39 0A.BCD W095 2E.FGH.
A = down5
B = down7
C = down1 minus down4 minus down7 plus down2
D = down5 minus down2
E = down3 minus down5 minus down7 plus down2
F = down1 minus down3 plus down2
G = down5 minus down7 plus down2
H = down4 minus down5 minus down2
Checksum for ABCD: 27
Checksum for EFGH: 16
Stage 2 is a small container containing a map with the necessary directions/clues to find the next four stages leading to the final. Take a photo of the map but please don't take it with you or post a photo of it with your log.
The 4.5 Difficulty rating reflects a fun field puzzle along with the challenge in interpreting/executing directions/clues on the map. The 1 Terrain rating reflects the ease in accessing all 7 stages (S1 without leaving the vehicle & S2-S7 from asphalt/concrete walkways).
The dangerous animals attribute is a simple reminder that Kansas snakes occasionally enjoy sunbathing on asphalt...
