While wandering through the historic Hastings Pass just off this exit, I stumbled upon a deserted ghost town near the Aragonite Quarry. Among the foundation ruins, I discovered a striking painting called 'My Empire of Dirt' by an artist I'd never heard of. It was a poignant reminder of the downward spiral of lives once lived here, now reduced to an empire of dirt as the inhabitants departed, leaving behind only memories and echoes of their existence.
