Geocache Description:

This is a stand alone ExeLoo toilet located on the main st by Mornington Park and is at the edge of the main shopping centre. Only one unit. There is plenty of on street parking but it can be a bit tight at busy times. It is located on a bus route with buses 15, 61 and 63 going pass. The cache itself is within 15-20 minutes walk and one of the bus routes mentioned goes near it. Parking is not a problem in the area of the cache.

The use of the name Mornington for this area was first recorded in 1862. It is thought that it was named by an early landholder, David Mailer after Mornington, Victoria. Mornington was a separate borough until it amalgated with Dunedin City in 1916.

You will see just down hill from rhe facilities a restored cable car. The Mornington/High Street cable car began running in1883 with the terminus alongside Eglington Rd. Extensions from the Mornington terminal were built to Eglin Rd (a short-lasting route), and to Maryhill(which lasted into the 1950's, and had a remarkable 1:3 gradient. The High Street line had a peak loading in 1945 with 3.5 million passengers in that year. Poor maintenance of the track and cars, and anticipating the arrival of trolley buses from the latter 1940's the service declined. The last car ran in 1955.

The area of Mornington is 109ha and the population in June 2023 stood at 2,970.

The loo building itself fronts onto the footpath just down from four bicycle racks. The larger door has the important facilities whereas the smaller door will hold cleaning supplies etc. On the wall between the door are three panels. The middle one has lights to indicate what is happening, vacant, engaged, closed.

If the facility is not been used and is functional you will probably find the door ajar, awaiting your arrival. Quiet soothing music will be heard as you enter. Just inside the door you will see the button for door closure. Press it and the door will slide and close the aperture. Opposite you, you will see the white toilet bowl jutting out of the wall near a corner. Missing paint shows metal underneath. The toilet seat is quite different from what you normally see in the local public loos. It is a fairly sturdy grey plastic. No lid though. I forgot to see if there were any attachments to indicate that it is missing. To the seated user left is the toilet paper holder. This is dispensed by pushing the obvious button. The problem with this method is that you don't have any idea of how much available paper there is an you don't want to be caught short. Hand rails on both sides provide assistance for those who need them. There is plenty of room for a wheel chair.

On the wall just along from the loo paper dispenser you will see recessed into the wall the stainless steel hand washing facilities.  Instructions along the top indicate the soap, water and drying stations, activated by remote sensors, but only if you hold your hands in the correct places. Next is the open/close door panel.

The internal walls are of white cermanic tiles and the floor covered in grey tiles. There is one coat hook available.

Overall, at the time of my visit they were clean with no mal odour.

Now, to get down to why you are really here.

The 180 ml snap lock cache can be found at South 45 53.A  East 170 28.BCD

can be worked out by using the PT number found on the outside of the loo and multiply this number by 20 and then subtracting  the second digit of the address on the PT sign.

can be sorted by looking to the right of the cubicle door. You will see three panels. The bottom two panels each have rectangles on them. In some of these there are symbols and writing. Count the total number of these rectangles that have writing and or symbols in them.

C is the value of .5 of the second digit in the address of the loos.

D underneath the ExeLoo word in the top of the three panels refered to for B you will see a blue rectangle. Count the number of symbols there are in this blue rectangle and multiply by two. What is the product?

Check sum for the individual digits in A as well as B + C + D = 28
