Geocache Description:

CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES

So you want to be a ghostbuster?  Well let me take you to some (reported) haunted locations in Minnesota and beyond! Note, there may be some disturbing language hence forth. If haunted locations and the reasons may bother you, you may want to skip this puzzle, or PAF for the coordinates. With that being said, lets proceed.

In Minnesota, we start on a somber note from the mid 1920s. The story goes, at 3:30 in the afternoon, a mine shaft collapsed, causing a river of water and mud to fill underground tunnels, taking 41 lives. It was Minnesota's worst mining disaster. Today, you can visit a park on the site. The area is supposedly haunted by miners who lost their lives in the tragedy.

Next, you'll want to stay pretty close to the Iron Range, but mainly on the shores of Lake Superior. I've actually taken a tour of this haunted location, and while you won't hear about the hauntings, the tour guides know about it. They try and keep the subject of this place light, but in reality, the events that happened here kind of sound like a game of Clue, and they didn't happen that long ago. This place is right on Lake Superior, with a great view of the lift bridge. It has a few outbuildings and a dock you can also visit. The tours are kind of pricey though. Not when the event happened. This is not a boat. When did construction start?

The events of the next story took place in the state capitol. It was actually featured in a book I finished earlier this year about haunted places in Minnesota. The location is in the Irvine Park neighborhood. The story goes, the house's first owner had a maid named Molly. Molly had an affair with the first owner, and his wife didn't take kindly to those shenanigans. Distraught by being caught, Molly hung herself from a chandelier in the home. Not the event that lead to the haunting. The location didn't take years to build.

Staying in the twin cities, this next haunted location is in the heart of a major metropolis, but has that old world charm. Or so it seems. The event that started the haunting happened the year construction began. It was completed 21 years after. A botched execution of a convict lead to his ghost haunting the building's halls. If you dare, the haunted hotspot is the fifth floor. In this case, when was the building as a whole complete?

While we're here, lets go a few blocks over to another hot spot, that is one of the most well known venues in Minnesota. The Purple man was here, and apparently the spirit of a girl is most commonly seen (or heard) in the bathroom. There are also supposedly ghosts of animals here, because a slaughterhouse once stood on the site. This place wasn't always as it is now. Don't dig for the slaughterhouse, you won't find it. You will find that this building had many different uses, compared to what it is now. This one might be tricky.

Leaving the cities, you'll want to check out this college's grounds, as the woods surrounding it are reportedly haunted. This according to students. What's funny, is the ghost is a bear! Don't worry though, the bear is friendly. It is surprising that the monks who "founded" this place aren't a part of the spooks here. Animals do have spirits too. I've seen a few.

College campuses must be a hotspot for paranormal, because you don't have to go far from the last place to find another university that spirits haunt. Now, some of this may be tall tales, but there's a residence hall reported to be haunted by a student who had an affair with a janitor. Another woman haunts another hall on campus messing with lights. She is accompanied by a child. One of the buildings was built atop a graveyard, and a 19th century soldier has made an appearance. I would love to see if these stories are true. Do not focus on the events here. I wonder if the founders foresaw these ghostly occurences.

---Now we head outside of Minnesota, to some of the most haunted locations in the United States.---

Perhaps one of the most haunted locations in the entire country is located in Kentucky. While it's no longer in use, the location once had hundreds of patients. Some of them with Tuberculosis, some of them there for... a word no longer used to describe folks who may have mental health issues. It has been extensively visited by both Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters. I'd probably be too chicken to spend the night there.

Heading out west, one must check out this famous landmark that launched a book and a film that many consider one of the scariest ever made. I don't necessarily find the film that scary, but some of the people who pass this place might get the chills, on their way to Rocky Mountain National Park.

The next location is back on the east side of the country, but it isn't a home, hospital, or any other building. It's a place you can visit. In this location, thousands of Americans were laying wounded or dead after an intense event that would etch itself into American history for many reasons, not the least of which deals with a president who wore a top hat. He made a famous addess there. Because of the events that took place here, the site is known to be very haunted. Don't go after dark. Its hard to believe such events over a short period of days could imprint so much onto the grounds. Its no surprise that it's one of the most haunted places in the country. A movie shares the name of this place. It has Jeff Daniels in it.

Let's go to the midwest for this next location. It's a location actually named after the spirit of a girl who haunts it. If you're ever in Kansas, visit this doctor's home and you just might see the spirit he tried to save from appendicitis. You can even stay overnight here, and experience the paranormal for yourself! The story of this girl's passing is very sad if you dig into it deeper.

Not that far away, in a town GCo might be familiar with (back to back Superbowl champs), a massacre occurred in 1933 that killed 5 at this location. As such, it is apparently haunted by the spirits of those who died in the gunfight. While it was widely used early on, usage dramatically dropped after World War II. Cars are probably to blame for that. Now, it is a museum and has other attractions. The massacre was almost 20 years after the building was completed.

Up for some Hollywood history? One of the most haunted locations in the greater Los Angeles area, was once owned by a man who was the prime suspect in a murder that went unsolved for a long time. Reportedly, the house gives off negative energy, and EVPs have been recorded on site. The name of the home doesn't match the prime suspect, but has been referred to as the "(1975 blockbuster)" house.  It was named for the original owner. There was also a movie made about the events here. Nobody was ever found guilty of the crime, but as mentioned, the owner of the place at one time was the prime subject. He died in the 1990s.

Staying in Southern California, if you're in the mood for a nautical haunt, you might want to head to San Diego. As you may have guessed, this is a ship that is haunted by three ghosts. One is the captain, the other an unfortunate member of the crew crushed by an achor, and a child stowaway. The ship is still sailing to this day. You'll find out when the United States got the ship. Note, there are A LOT of haunted boats in San Diego including the USS Midway! Hint: the United States got this ship in the early 20th century.

And finally, to the state of Mississippi we go. This haunted hotspot is one of the oldest buildings in the state, and the most haunted restaurant in the state. The namesake apparently murdered a woman he was having an affair with and stuffed her and the murder weapon in the walls. In fact, three skeletons were found in the walls. Yikes!

So who ya gonna call?

Note: it was just a coincidence that this cache came to be around the time that Frozen Empire will premiere in theaters.
I am not endorsing any film, product or Columbia/Sony Pictures.

The difficulty is entirely in the puzzle but somewhat the hide.
