Un pò di storia...
Il Palazzo Farnese, commissionato dalla duchessa Margherita d'Austria nel 1561 per simboleggiare il potere dei Farnese, fu progettato da Jacopo Barozzi il Vignola. La mancanza di fondi ha impedito la realizzazione completa, che si è conclusa nel 1602 con meno della metà dell'edificio previsto. Dopo l'estinzione dei Farnese, il palazzo passò ai Borbone nel 1734-36, subendo un declino che include il saccheggio da parte di truppe napoleoniche nel 1803 e la trasformazione in caserma nel 1822. A partire dalla metà del Novecento, il palazzo è stato restaurato e nel 1997 è diventato sede dei Musei Civici, passando nel 2014 alla proprietà comunale.

A bit of history...
The construction of Palazzo Farnese was initiated by Margherita d'Austria, the Duchess of Parma and Piacenza, in 1561 to symbolize the authority of the Farnese dynasty. Designed by architect Jacopo Barozzi, also known as Vignola, the project faced financial constraints, resulting in its partial completion by 1602. Following the decline of the Farnese family, the palace saw various uses, including a brief stint as a barracks under Austrian control in 1822. Restoration efforts commenced in the mid-20th century, and since 1997, it has served as home to the Civic Museums, eventually becoming municipal property in 2014.
