Fort Abercrombie
Located along the Red River between modern Fargo and Wahpeton. Operating to protect water traffic along the Red River as well as land traffic entering the Dakota territory from 1857 to 1878. Fort Abercrombie was the first permanent U.S. Military Fort established in modern North Dakota. It was also the first to be besieged by the Sioux for a short time.
This is one in a short series of geocaches south of Tioga. Quick grabs but named to highlight the history of Forts in North Dakota. Have tweezers to attempt these caches. Replace as found. If you ever have a problem with one of my caches, please reach out to me!
