Geocache Description:

GEO-CO

This is part of my Oberlin Series! I thought it would be awesome to create an exco (a course led by a student in Oberlin College) on geocaching with different caches on campus for students to enjoy. This cache may be archived in the summer as I do not live locally.

This is what me and my friends call the wizard tower. It's so mysterious to me. The arboretum has a very interesting history. Aparently it was built around the Ladies Grove. The ladies grove was created as a place for young ladies to walk alone (the college had a rule in 1859 prohibiting ladies from walking wtihout their parents in the woods except for the arb.) The college purchased it in 1892, and developed it as the nature preserve we see today. Anyone can enjoy this monument now, no parents required. If you have any knowledge about the history of the monument, please tell me in your log! It's a huge mystery to me, I wonder if it ever had stairs inside. There is so much beyond the monument to explore, the Arb has a reservoir (split into two lakes,) a stream, and a pretty cool bridge. It's a great place for birding, or to go on a hike. The North Coast Inland Trail is nearby, and there's a pretty epic geocaching series along it.
