The Balmain Glasshouse - On Darling Street
The Balmain Glasshouse which is right next to the Town Hall. It was built in 1946 for propagating seeds for the Leichhardt Council, and over the years was neglected until it was restored in 2010 and is now used to encourage locals to propagate and distribute seeds and seedlings, as well as for propagating seeds for the council.
The Glass House looks like a conservatory. Further investigation tells me that people meet there weekly to learn about and experience the rewards of edible gardening. I get the feeling that there is quite a sense of community in Balmain and the Glasshouse is but one example.
There are regular events which include talks, cooking demos and discussions about growing and using produce from the garden. They will do a demo using produce from the garden, nothing gives greater pleasure than using produce that is fresh from the garden and cooking to an appreciative gathering.
The Cache is hidden in the surrouding grounds, you will need to explore to find this unnatural object that it's hidden in. Please replace the cache properly so others can enjoy! Enjoy this part of history and beautiful Darling St in Balmain.
