Zum Standort:
Auf dem Gebiet des heutigen Schlingerhofs und Floridsdorfer Markt stand nämlich zwischen 1870 und 1911 ein Gaswerk der britischen FirmaImperial-Continental-Gas-Association. Am Höhepunkt der Produktion um 1900 versorgte das Gaswerk einen Großteil des heutigen Bezirkes: Alt-Floridsdorf, Neu-Jedlersdorf, Donaufeld, Jedlesee, Strebersdorf, Stammersdorf, Leopoldau, Kagran und sogar Bisamberg und Langenzersdorf! Das Gaswerk hatte drei Gasbehälter, die Gasometer, eine Kokerei, in der aus Kohle Gas gewonnen wurde. Am Gelände des heutigen Schlingerhofs befanden sich die Verwaltungsgebäude und das Retortenhaus. Altes Gaswerk x Neues Gaswerk
Mit dem Auslaufen des Grundstücksvertrags wurde das Gaswerk still gelegt und mit dem städtischen Gaswerk in Leopoldau ersetzt – heute befindet sich dort das Stadtentwicklungsgebiet Neu Leopoldau. Ab 1924 wurde der Schlingerhof und der Markt, nach Plänen von Hans Glaser, auf dem Gebiet des Floridsdorfer Gaswerks errichtet. Mehr zum Schlingerhof und seinen Namensgeber findest du hier. Auch heute kann man die Struktur des Gaswerkes im Stadtplan ablesen, denn die Straßen „Floridsdorfer Markt“ und „Lottgasse“ verlaufen immer noch an der ehemaligen Gaswerkmauer entlang.
Der Schlingermarkt so wie wir ihn heute kennen besteht seit 1926. Während des zweiten Weltkriegs wurde er jedoch fast vollkommen zerstört und musste nach Kriegsende komplett neu aufgebaut werden. Am 16. Oktober 1948 wurde der Markt wiedereröffnet – Modernisierung inklusive. Auch heute noch spielen Modernisierung und Klimaanpassung eine wichtige Rolle am Markt. So wurde 2018 das Leitbild für den Schlingermarkt beschlossen, das in den kommenden Jahren umgesetzt werden soll. Der Schlingermarkt soll begrünt werden und hochwertigere öffentliche Räume bekommen.
Jeden Freitag und Samstag Vormittag ist Bauernmarktzeit am Schlingermarkt! Produzent*innen aus Wien, Niederösterreich und auch von weiter weg verkaufen am Landparteienplatz ihre frische und saisonale Ware. Von Brot, Fisch, Käse, Wein über Obst, Gemüse und Kräuter findest du dort alles was du für dein Wochenende brauchst! Für Fahrradfahrer*innen gibt es Stellplätze direkt am Bauernmarktplatz! Mit den Straßenbahnlinien 30 und 31 kommst du bequem zum Markt. Oder von der U6 Floridsdorf über die FUßgängerzone Pius Parsch Platz schlendern, durch die neu gemachte Schleifgasse zum Markt spazieren.
Mit dem Auto - Kurzparkzonen beachten und nicht mit der Nase an den Ständen stehen, die sind nur für Marktstandler, auf der Seite parken kann teuer werden...

About the Location:
On the site of today's Schlingerhof and Floridsdorfer Markt, there was a gasworks of the British company Imperial-Continental-Gas-Association between 1870 and 1911. At the peak of production around 1900, the gasworks supplied a large part of the present district: Alt-Floridsdorf, Neu-Jedlersdorf, Donaufeld, Jedlesee, Strebersdorf, Stammersdorf, Leopoldau, Kagran, and even Bisamberg and Langenzersdorf! The gasworks had three gas holders, the gasometers, a coking plant where gas was extracted from coal. The administrative buildings and the retort house were located on the site of today's Schlingerhof. Old Gasworks x New Gasworks
With the expiration of the property contract, the gasworks was shut down and replaced with the municipal gasworks in Leopoldau - today the area is the urban development area Neu Leopoldau. From 1924, the Schlingerhof and the market, according to plans by Hans Glaser, were built on the site of the Floridsdorf gasworks. You can find more about the Schlingerhof and its namesake here. Even today, you can still see the structure of the gasworks on the city map, as the streets "Floridsdorfer Markt" and "Lottgasse" still run along the former gasworks wall.
The Schlingermarkt as we know it today has existed since 1926. However, during the Second World War, it was almost completely destroyed and had to be completely rebuilt after the war. The market reopened on October 16, 1948 - including modernization. Even today, modernization and climate adaptation play an important role at the market. In 2018, the vision for the Schlingermarkt was adopted, which is to be implemented in the coming years. The Schlingermarkt is to be greened and receive higher quality public spaces.
Every Friday and Saturday morning is farmers market time at the Schlingermarkt! Producers from Vienna, Lower Austria, and even further afield sell their fresh and seasonal goods at the Landparteienplatz. From bread, fish, cheese, wine to fruit, vegetables, and herbs, you'll find everything you need for your weekend there! For cyclists, there are parking spaces directly at the farmers' market square! You can conveniently reach the market with tram lines 30 and 31. Or walk from U6 Floridsdorf via the pedestrian zone Pius Parsch Platz, stroll through the newly made Schleifgasse to the market.
By car - pay attention to short-term parking zones and don't stand too close to the stalls, they're only for market vendors, parking on the side can be expensive...
