Un pò di storia...
La piazza prende il nome da "sobborgo", poiché si trovava al di fuori delle prime mura medievali della città. Qui prosperavano le botteghe artigianali dei mercanti di pellami e tessuti. Ancora visibile all'angolo con via Garibaldi è l'antica casa torre della famiglia Scotti. Al centro della piazza si erge la chiesa di Santa Brigida, costruita tra il XII e il XIII secolo su un edificio più antico, che originariamente ospitava un hospitale per i pellegrini. Poco distante si trova anche la chiesa di Santa Eufemia, risalente ai secoli XI e XII.
A bit of history...
The square gets its name from the term "suburb," as it was situated beyond the original medieval city walls. It was renowned for housing artisan workshops, particularly those of leather and textile merchants. Still standing at the corner of Via Garibaldi is the ancient tower house belonging to the Scotti family. At the heart of the square stands the dominant church of Santa Brigida, built between the 12th and 13th centuries on the site of an older structure which once served as a hospital for pilgrims. Not far away lies the church of Santa Eufemia, which dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries.
