Meet Malin!
Malin is the newest troll creation of Danish artist Thomas Dambo that has taken up residence in Austin's Pease Park. Dambo creates trolls in natural settings out of recycled materials, and in Malin's case includes wood from a water tank at the J.J. Pickle campus at UT and the roots of ash juniper (Texas cedar) trees for her hair.
Austin's troll is titled "Malin's Fountain" because he was inspired by the way locals often leave water out for wildlife during the hot summers.
When it was time to celebrate my 15,000th find, I could think of no better location than the new Virtual GCAJFTY hidden by my friend Buckandi, who volunteered in the assembly. So let's make it a party - a POTLUCK PICNIC PARTY! We'll share treats and eats at Malin's feet, and enjoy this new piece of Austin art & each other's company. I'll bring drinks and desserts, so when you log your "Will Attend" be sure to mention what you'll bring to share!
Two important notes:
1) BYO chairs and/or picnic blankets. There are tables, but they are subject to availability for those who have not reserved them.
2) Parking is tricky: There's a very small lot near the entrance to Kingsbury Commons, that on a Sunday afternoon may fill up quickly. Your safest bet is to park at the Austin Rec Center and cross Lamar. (See the coords below.)
P.S. If you'd like another Dambo Troll cache, check out GC891NC Isak Heartstone in Breckenridge, Colorado.
