Welcome to Chippewa City! This settlement predated Chippewa Falls by quite a bit, and seemed poised to become the major community in the Chippewa Valley. Obviously this did not come to pass. There was a mill.....but it lacked the water power of The Falls. Incidently I think there are traces of the mill dam still visible if you look closely. And the promises that the rail road would come through in the 1850's and build a bridge here? Turned out to be another real estate boom/scam.
What you can see today are actually the remains of the third wave of occupation here, a long closed resort with sagging cabins, paint peeling off, and down the road a bit a battered Walter's Beer sign with Chippewa City Resort still visible! And of course some brand new, very nice homes. This has always been a scenic spot.
The hide should be easy. Parking is right there and the beacon just hollers "Look in here!". You might have to pick a time when nobody is fishing on the spot.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of a boom town that gradually faded away.
