This is a series of caches that will take you on a caching tour of all four quadrants of the District of Columbia. One cache will be hidden on each of the 50 State Avenues (actually 48 Avenues + a Street and a Drive). These caches each contain a code word that will lead you to one final cache (to be placed) located in our nation's capitol upon completion of the series. We will be publishing these caches in batches throughout the spring and summer.
About this cache: Located on California St. in the neighborhood of Kalorama. You didn’t read that wrong–the great state of California somehow didn’t get their own avenue, rather it is the only state street. Present day California St. was previously California Ave. However, in 1905, DC renamed the street T St. After resident outcry, the name was changed back to California but given Street instead of Avenue because the commissioners thought the road was not grand enough to be an avenue.
