Geocache Description:

This space is lovely new playground for the Newlands/Paparangi community called Pukehuia Park. It opened in 2021 and the community uses it well. Bring the children for a play and run around, bring your skateboard for an adult play! A marked out Ki-O-Rahi pitch is also included. Youths!

Pukehuia = hill of a huia bird. The beautiful and noisy Huia birds used to live in this area but are now sadly extint. The name was gifted to the community by Ngā Hau e Whā o Paparārangi, kaitiaki of the area.

This can be a busy spot but where the cache is should be a bit quieter.

Sit and enjoy the serenity. BYO writing device. Cache container was changed from two magnetic cables to it's new format in March 2025 after it was muggled three times in quick succession.
