Geocache Description:

Cogs Dogs and a Cat - Casey

Casey was Mrs Cogs beloved dog in her previous life prior to being Mrs Cogs.  Casey passed away about 8-9 years ago and was a Bloodhound X German shepherd. She was incredibly intelligent and a very, very, fast runner. Like the time she almost outran a hare in the wetlands while off leash in the dog area. She was within inches of him when the hare took an abrupt right angle turn into the water, lol. This story was the stuff of legends for a long time.

Casey was so smart that she was the only dog who had lived at the house that had been smart enough to be able to open the gate. She would put her nose under the latch and pull back. Then she would proceed to take herself on a walk around the block and down to the wetlands dog area on her usual walking trail. Hence why the gate ended up being chained.  She was also a brilliant ratter, catching one flying through the air as my stepdaughter kicked it.  We had chickens so mice and rats were a hazzard.  She also had two ferret brothers she lived with for their lives called Mojo and Merlin. She preferred Merlin, Mrs Cogs ferret.  They were very tame and would walk on a leash.

Casey absolutely hated smokers and men wearing hats, I am guessing that is what her puppy dad looked like because she came to us as an 8 week old pup with those traits.  I never believed that I would have a more loyal dog than her as she would be as close to me as she could get all the time although she also loved and spent time with her dad. It is hard to believe that Maggie, the current Cogs dog is even more loyal sitting at my feet as I type which is something that Casey would also do.

Casey’s favourite foods were pizza, pasta and pies. She was also very partial to avocado and ham on toast. So much so that I would call her a Hampire because she was so obsessed with it.  Oh and cheese and a good dog bone.  With the pizza I will never forget the day that instead of getting her usual crust of pizza she got a whole slice.  The look was like WHAT??? You guys have been holding out on me.  This is what pizza tastes like? Casey always felt entitled to eat the last bite of anything that you were eating and would get disgusted if you forgot. The actual dog treats that she got were carob and she would do anything for a ‘dog choc’ and she knew the smell. So much so that she got Mrs Cogs in trouble for putting chocolates under the Christmas tree one year.  It was a surprise gift from a friend, well not anymore.

She was very much loved and loyal until the end and is dearly remembered in the list of precious lives of Cogs Dogs.

The nearby brick arches were part of Ballarat's lost history and now serve as a canvas for graffiti artists.

The Geocache is placed near wetlands in her memory.

You will need a pen.

Congratulations to pheldogga for FTF.
