Roundhouse Library is located in Athersley, but a demolished historic structure is why locals know the area as Roundhouse.
The ‘Roundhouse’ was an unusual eight-sided building on the Wakefield turnpike that acted as a gatehouse for the Manor Farm House in New Lodge.
The 'Roundhouse' was demolished in the mid-20th century, and its site is now occupied by the Roundhouse Medical Centre, which is just around the corner from the recently refurbished Library.
