Geocache Description:

Xuanhuaceratops

  • Early Ceratopsian: This dinosaur lived in the Late Jurassic period (around 150-145 million years ago), making it one of the earliest known ceratopsians, a group that includes Triceratops.
  • Small and Slender: Xuanhuaceratops was relatively small, estimated to be only around one meter long. It had slender upper arm bones and a bowed thighbone, suggesting it might have been partially bipedal (walking on two legs) at times.
  • Unique Horn Combination: While details are unclear due to limited fossils, Xuanhuaceratops likely had a unique combination of horns or bumps on its head, unlike the prominent horns of later ceratopsians.
  • Found in China: Fossils of Xuanhuaceratops have been discovered in the Houcheng Formation of Hebei Province, northeastern China.
