Norbert the gnome had always dreamt of building the world's tallest gnome hat. Armed with a blueprint (courtesy of a particularly chatty spider) and a four-foot-tall stack of vibrantly colored leaves, he set to work. He meticulously stitched three leaves together, humming a jaunty tune about mischievous squirrels and four snoring mushrooms.
By nightfall, he'd built a respectable eight inches of hat. Exhausted but determined, Norbert decided to take a quick nap. He woke with a jolt to a chorus of squawks and found a family of nine blue jays nestled amongst his creation, using it as a giant, leafy nest. Sighing, Norbert decided a nine-inch hat would have to do, vowing to invest in some scarecrow feathers next time.
