Senoji Kauno obelis – botaninis gamtos paveldo objektas, 1960 metais paskelbtas saugomu. Auga Kaune, Kazliškiuose, privačiame sklype šalia gyvenamojo namo.
Obels kamieno apimtis apie 285 cm, amžius – apie 360 metų, medžio aukštis – 8 m. Šiuo metu gyvybingos tik kelios obels šakos, tačiau jos pasidengia vešlia lapija, veda vaisius, o kamieną apraizgo vijoklinės žydinčios pupelės. Obelis pramečiuoja – žydi ir veda vaisius kas antrus metus. Dabartinio kamieno su didžiule dreve apimtis mažesnė, nes prieš kelerius metus per vėtrą nulūžo viena stambi šaka.
Istorija
Pasakojama, kad kadaise šioje vietoje augo giria. Žmonės kirto medžius, statėsi namus. Nedrįso nukirsti čia žydėjusios laukinės obels. Vėliau ji atsidūrė gyvenvietėje tarp namų. Pasakojama, kad 1812 m. čia buvo rastas sušalęs prancūzų kareivis ir palaidotas po obelimi. 1960 m. obelis paskelbta gamtos paminklu, 1987 m. – respublikinės reikšmės paminklu. Lietuvoje seniausia obelis.
Buvusiame Kazliškių kaime šios sodybos šeimininkai 1960 m. ketino nupjauti šalia augusią ir trukdžiusią seną obelį statyti sandėliuką. Vienai iš negausių vietinių gyventojų prasitarus, kad obelis mena čia gyvenusį jos prosenelį, šeimininkai nutarė ją išsaugoti. Tais pačiais metais į sodybą atvažiavę gamtosaugininkai ant akmens šalia obels pritvirtino metalinę lentelę su įrašu, kad senoji obelis – gamtos paminklas, kuriam tuomet buvo apie 300 metų.

About the object
The Old Kaunas apple tree is a botanical natural heritage site, declared protected in 1960. It grows in Kazliškiai, Kaunas, on a private plot next to a residential house.
The trunk of the apple tree is about 285 cm in circumference, its age is about 360 years, and the height of the tree is about 8 m. Only a few branches of the apple tree are currently alive, but they are covered with lush foliage, bear fruit, and the trunk is covered with creeping flowering beans. The apple tree is a perennial apple tree, flowering and fruiting every second year. The current trunk with a large hollow is smaller because one large branch broke off in a wind a few years ago.
History
It is said that once upon a time there was a forest on this site. People cut down trees and built houses. They did not dare to cut down the wild apple tree that bloomed here. Later, it was placed in a settlement between houses. It is said that in 1812 a French soldier was found frozen here and buried under an apple tree. The apple tree was declared a natural monument in 1960 and a monument of republican importance in 1987. The oldest apple tree in Lithuania.
In 1960, the owners of the former Kazliškės village estate planned to cut down an old apple tree that was growing nearby and was in the way of the construction of a storehouse. When one of the few locals told them that the apple tree was a reminder of her great-grandfather who had lived there, the owners decided to preserve it. In the same year, nature conservationists came to the homestead and placed a metal plaque on the stone next to the apple tree, stating that the old apple tree was a natural monument, which was then about 300 years old.
