Geocache Description:

The 2 mile long Abbey River is an artificial river/mill race dug by the monks by order of the Abbot of Chertsey Abbey in the eleventh century to supply power to the mill closest to their monastery/abbey and water their numerous fish ponds.

The Abbey River starts at the bend in the River Thames at Penton Hook and encircles Lalelam Burway and Lalelam reach known as the Abbey Mead which belonged to Chertsey Abbey founded in the 7th century AD of Anglo Saxon England. It re-enters the Thames west of Chertsey Bridge.

When you walk alongthe Abbey River you are walking through  medieval history. There are two other geocaches on bridges over the Abbey River. There is one at the Penton Hook end and one with a monster.

You are looking at ground level.
