A gold-themed cache and this is the place that sprang to mind when we were thinking of a spot to place it. Also convenient that Little Miss ST lives a stone throw away. Please bring a pen for the signing.
So, on to the gold:
The Golden Jubilee celebration took place in 2002 to celebrate 50 years since the accession of the then Monarch (Lizzie) to the throne. She wasn't actually crowned until 1953, but from a jubilee perspective it was the accession in 1952 that was the important date.
The hospital here has an interesting background. It was actually opened in 1994 as a private hospital belonging to American company Health Care International. The site had originally been the Beardmore Shipyard. The hospital had a five star hotel within the grounds and we believe (this could all be a friend of a friend story) that the idea was that it would offer private procedures to mainly clientelle from the Far East. The plan being that they could fly in to the very convenient Glasgow Airport. Relatives could stay in the five star hotel and perhaps the patients themselves could as they convalesced / recuperated.

Happily the private model was an unmitigated disaster, went into receivership and was bought by the Scottish Executive in 2002. Soon afterwards (and in that year) it was renamed the Golden Jubilee.
The Golden Jubilee is its own NHS Board, the Waiting List Board. The last we heard it was one of only two non-territorial NHS Boards in Scotland.
