Geocache Description:

This is Williams first Cache, located on Windsor Street.

Windsor Street is an interesting place. At the end of the street is the old school house, built in 1873 to serve the New Headington Infant School next door. Although the teacher only lasted a few years before deciding to live somewhere else.

Next door is a blue plaque to Edward Brooks VC, the first man in the Ox & Bucks light infantry to win the Victoria Cross (for capturing a machine gun at Fayet in WW1).

Across the road to the north is the oldest house on the street, built in 1852 and which in 1873 had a family with six children living it. In 1874 they turned the living room into a grocers shop and soup kitchen (which remained until 1949).

Further on there are a few houses with insurance markers, in order that the fire brigade would know to put out the fire.
