BERT'S COUNTRY DANCING
Bert's Country Dancing was THE party spot in Valentine in its day. Bert was Bert Denton, an ex-Navy retired rancher who evidently believed that everyone deserved to have a beer and kick up their heels on occasion (dancin' was only on Saturday nights). And of course he got to play a little fiddle and guitar.
The bar was located at the crossroads of Route 66 and Country Dancin' Place. Bert described it as 'just a little Ol' Country Joint.' Dollar beers and 60 cent sodas. Valentine was a fairly sized place at one time, including a post office, several gas stations, a general store, the Chief motel, and two schools - the Native American school and the Red House, along with a long-distance exchange. The Chiefs motel is about 100 yards to the northeast of Bert's. Be sure to check out its sign along with the Beale Wagon Road info sign.
