PIECES - (1982) HD Trailer (youtube.com)

Still here? Ok then. This one is dark.

"Pieces" is a 1982 Spanish-American horror film that is directed by no one notable and stars no one you will ever see in anything else.

It is also known as a "Video Nasty".

I Spit on Your Grave, The Driller Killer, Cannibal Holocaust, Faces of Death, The Burning, and, to a lesser extent, The Exorcist and Evil Dead are all prime examples of a misaligned micro-genre of horror known as the Video Nasties.

Video Nasties are a unique by-product of an overwhelmed film censoring process at the dawn of the home video market.

The term "Video Nasty" was first coined by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Videos were not originally subjected to the same approval system as typical theatrical releases. This provided a bizarre loophole which some low-budget film-makers used to distribute horror and exploitation films that were of an excessively violent or disturbing nature.

As you may logically surmise, we are horror and science fiction fans. These sort of films, however, are not typical fare for us.

That said, Video Nasties played an undeniable key note in the history of Horror Films and were directly influential in forming much of horror culture in film today.

I would also further suggest that the inevitable desensitizing effect that varies with each film and individual, or more commonly known as the "shock-value", became a very marketable commodity unto itself throughout pop-culture in general. Many films, video games, and artists of today have gained notoriety through these simple yet very effective means.

The film "Pieces" was a popular Video Nasty and a perfect example of the genre.

The details of this film are too graphic to discuss in this forum and I assure you not worth discussing anyways. It is an easy google search if you must.

There is very little substance to the plot. Just 80 minutes of bad acting, bad effects, plenty of gore -and one child actor who probably grew up traumatized as a result of his rotten parents allowing him to be in this film.
