Marsh Woundwort, Stachys palustris, is an herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the mint family.

It is a medium to tall, hairy plant, reaching up to 2 meters in height. The flowers are purple, 12 to 15 mm long, and form dense spikes. It thrives in damp habitats, including margins of ponds, rivers, canals, and disturbed ground. It can also be found in cultivated fields. It flowers from June to October across most of Britain, except for the Scottish Highlands.

As its name suggests, it has been used since ancient times to treat wounds and skin injuries – it is mentioned by the father of medicine, Hippocrates. Other herbal uses include as a treatment for respiratory and digestive problems, though there is insufficient scientific evidence that it is effective. In some cultures it was believed to have magical properties, warding off evil spirits and bringing good luck.
