Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates

Common sea-lavender, Limonium vulgare, also known as sea thrift, is a native coastal plant found on sand dunes, mudflats and saltmarshes. It is unrelated to true lavenders and doesn’t have their characteristic scent. The native species usually has mauve flowers, but can vary from blue to pink. The flowers grow in sprays at the top of long stems and appear from July to September. The leaves are much smaller and grow close to the ground. It is also grown as a garden plant, with the flower stems popular with flower arrangers, as the blooms are long lasting and retain their colour when dried. The name sea lavender is also used for a number of closely related species, which are often marketed collectively as Statice and are available in a greater variety of colours than wild species. In Victorian times, statice represented everlasting love and memories and were often gifted after bereavement to express sympathy and grief. For the ancient Greeks, statice was associated with the island of Delos, sacred to Apollo, and possessed powerful healing properties.
