Geocache Description:

You will find this cache near the old, now-abandoned Hillcrest Presbyterian church.  This magnificent edifice was built in 1874, just a decade after the American Civil War.  It served the populace of Burgettstown for well over a century before being closed as the congregation merged with the other Presbyterian church in town in 1999.

Nowadays the brick church structure is boarded up and has a somewhat forlorn look.  Please treat it with respect and do not trespass.

The cache itself is on public property.  Its name is derived from the old idiom “poor as a churchmouse.”  The idiom exists in various iterations including “hungry as a churchmouse” and “quiet as a churchmouse.”  The proverbial churchmouse's hunger or poverty comes from the fact that Catholic and Orthodox priests are called to scrupulously prevent any crumb of the sacrament of Eucharist (the bread which is understood to be Christ's body) from falling on the altar or to the ground, meaning that church mice had no crumbs to feed on.

I hope your hunt is more successful than a churchmouse's.
