We were hiking in Dilijan area in the frame of HikeArmenia app's initiative which is called Yerevan Trail Club, so we were 17 people altogether, and all of us participated in the process of hiding another geocache by Matosavank Monastery which I hope you'll have time to explore too. Here only 3 of us came to hide a geocache, during a short stop on the way back to Yerevan. Me (Vahagn), Mariam Gh. and Ara, hid this geocache on behalf of our big 17 people-team ((Vahagn, the owner of the geocache), Shahane, Mariam Zh, Mariam Gh, Mariam T, Gohar, Tina, Erik, Benjamin, Narine, Irina, Vardan, Ara, Lilit, Karen, Yana, and Daniel).
We did this hiding as our second introduction to geocaching, because the theme of this hike was geocaching, and hopefully it was enough practical to help the participants who are interested to start geocaching themselves. And of course we are happy to bring you to this wonderful statue so well-hidden in such a central place in a city, that even many locals do not know about it. The name of the sculpture is "Abundance", and the author is famous Armenian sculptor Karlen Nurijanyan. This is a statue of an Armenian woman, symbolizing abundance with her charm and majesty, and it was frist presented at the exhibition devoted to the 40th anniversary of Soviet Armenia, held in the Union of Artists of Armenia in 1960, the very year of its creation. In this regard, it was initially placed at the entrance of the union building, on the right side, then it was moved and placed in Dilijan, and on the other side, on the left, there was one of the works of sculptor Tereza Mirzoyan.
If you haven't heard of HikeArmenia yet, and you are interested in an interactive specialized Armenian app with tons of hiking trails, then go ahead and find it on AppStore. Happy geocaching and maybe see you somewhere on the trails some time in future;-)
Look for the geocache behind the statue, where in warm season you might also happen to see some lizards, and watch out for other reptiles because this place isn't often visited by people and the wildlife is gradually taking over the man-made structures:)
