Nestled in the heart of Olympia, WA, Yauger Park is a fun park for all ages. The "Yauger Lake Scrap Cache" was crafted from something that would have been waste. Thank a series of very boring work meetings for giving me the opportunity to fritter at this.
A Brief History:
Yauger Park, developed in 1982, was the vision of retired United States Army Colonel Yauger. It's a place where nature and urban life converge, offering a variety of recreational experiences across its 40 acres. Known affectionately by locals as "Yauger Lake," the park doubles as a stormwater retention area for the neighboring Capital Mall. It's not uncommon to see the park transformed into a vast lake during heavy rains, a demonstration of its role in protecting the city from flooding.
Park Highlights:
- Skate Park: Since 2000, the 11,500 sq. ft. Yauger Skate Park has been a hub for skaters, giving the an inclusive spot to enjoy their sport. It features a mix of vert and street-style transitions, inviting skaters of all levels to enjoy.
- Sports fields: The park boasts four ballfields, three of which are lighted, soccer fields, basketball hoops, a running track, and even a horseshoe pit.
- Playground: The playground is home to an epic mega slide, providing thrills for the young.
As a child, I spent many days here at the Celebrate Olympia family fairs. Many memories, most positive!
Enjoy a picnic (weather permitting) when you look for this cache!
