Geocache Description:

The Hisago-dori Shopping Street in Asakusa is an arcade-style shopping street located in the northern part of Asakusa. It stretches approximately 180 meters from north to south and is lined with around 50 shops.

The name “Hisago” for the shopping street originates from the Hyotan Pond, which used to be located opposite the entrance of the street. The name was given after the pond was filled in. In the past, this street connected Asakusa’s Rokku district with Yoshiwara, and it was a vibrant area that combined elegance with the spirit of old Edo. Some of that historical charm still remains today. In recent years, the street has become a popular spot for both locals and young visitors, with a mix of old and new shops.

Hisago-dori Shopping Street features a variety of down-to-earth shops, including small supermarkets with affordable vegetables and fruits, as well as local Chinese restaurants. It exudes the nostalgic atmosphere of the old downtown, and its appeal lies in its authenticity. Tourists tend to be fewer here, making it a hidden gem in Asakusa.
