Dort's Cove, settled in the mid 1780's by Hessian soldiers contracted by the British Gov't to fight in the American War of Independence. Dort is a German name as is many of the original settlers from Dort's Cove to Canso... including: Snyder, Ryter, George (Gurgon), Greencorn (Krinkhorn), Uloth, Jamieson, and Dort.
Salmon River beach has a beautiful salmon fishing location at the river's entrance at the end of the beach, and be sure to complete the earth cache while visiting.
