Šibenik really has countless rarities that can tickle the imagination of visitors. With the famous cathedral of St. Jakov and the fortress of St. Nikola, which are unmissable tourist destinations, have their competition in the canal promenade of St. Ante. One of the must-sees is the sea tunnel called Hitler's Eyes. Yes, you read that right!

History
It is about an unusual construction project of Hitler's military engineering during World War II at the narrowest point of St. Ante cut a parallel water passage for ships through the rocks. This is 200-meter-long sea tunnel excavated in the rock. This allowed the occupying Nazi forces to fully control the sea entrance to Šibenik. That is, their occupation ships sailed freely through this passage and mined the rest of the channel. This construction work, called Hitler's eyes, is just one of the interesting stops on the aforementioned promenade.
After World War II, it was used by the Yugoslav Navy to hide and protect warships from air raids and as a submarine base. The name "Hitler's eyes" is a local name for the two openings in the tunnel.
