giacaches: Wow! I barely recall seeing a blackberry when I placed this cache a few years ago, so I was surprised when I stopped by earlier this week and found the guardrail overtaken by an impenetrable wall of thorny blackberry vines. I was sorely unprepared to battle my way in, so I returned today in long pants and closed-toed shoes, armed with two different sizes of clippers. Even then, it took several minutes of hacking through the thicket before I could retrieve the container.
Earlier this year, I learned that *most caches get about 25% of their lifetime finds within the first month and 50% within the first three months. After about six months, "Found it" logs tend to slow to a trickle until they are archived. As a hider, I really enjoy reading people's logs, and that statistic has helped me think differently about archiving. I've attached a photo of every signature in the logbook. This cache had a good run, and now it's time for it to go!
*In the U.S., 17% of all finds happen within the first week!
