De Grote Knip, of zoals de lokale bevolking het noemt Playa Kennepa Grandi, is één van de populairste stranden op Curaçao.
Je vindt de Grote Knip aan de westkust van het eiland. Het strand is omringt door rotsen en bos, waardoor er ook veel schaduwplekken te vinden zijn. Wanneer je aankomt bij de Grote Knip, heb je een prachtig uitzicht over het witte zandstrand en helder blauwe water.
Unesco benoemde de Grote Knip een aantal jaar geleden tot ‘most beautiful beach in the Caribbean’. Het is dan ook het meest gefotografeerde strand van het tropische eiland en wij snappen wel waarom!
De toegang tot de Grote Knip is gratis. Je verwacht van een van de mooiste stranden van het eiland massatoerisme en veel beachclubs, maar niets is minder waar. Je vindt maar één simpele snackbar waar je overigens wel prima eten kan (alleen cash betalen). Ook is er één fantastisch verhuur bedrijf! Hier kan je alles vinden om je stranddag nog completer te maken, subs, onderwaterscooter, snorkels en nog veel meer. Verder is er een wc aanwezig, deze is bij de jongens die ook de strandbedjes verhuren te regelen.
De Grote Knip is ook erg populair onder de lokale bevolking. Hierdoor heeft het echt een Caribische sfeer. In het weekend genieten hele families op dit strand van het eilandleven. Spelende kinderen, barbecues, hun eigen stoelen en koelboxen mee, een groot feest!
De onderwaterwereld bij de Grote Knip is niet heel bijzonder te noemen, maar genoeg om een kijkje te nemen. De bodem is bedenkt met wit zand. Dit maakt dat je in een prachtige helderder zee kijkt, aan beide zijdes is genoeg onderwaterwereld te zien. Je kan op de Grote Knip ook van de rotsen af het water in springen op je eigen risico!

The beach is surrounded by rocks and forest, so there are many shady spots. When you arrive at the Grote Knip, you have a beautiful view of the white sandy beach and clear blue water. A few years ago, UNESCO named the Grote Knip the 'most beautiful beach in the Caribbean'. It is the most photographed beach on the tropical island and we understand why!
Admission to the Grote Knip is free. You expect mass tourism and many beach clubs from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, but nothing could be further from the truth. You will only find one simple snack bar and a great rental company on the beach! There is also a toilet available. Beach beds can be rented.
The Grote Knip is also very popular among the locals. This really gives it a Caribbean atmosphere. At weekends, entire families enjoy island life on this beach. Children playing, barbecues, bringing their own chairs and cool boxes, a nice sight!
The underwater world at the Grote Knip is not very suitable for snorkeling. The bottom is covered with white sand. This means that you look into a beautiful clearer sea, but there is almost no coral to be found. There is plenty of underwater world to be found on both sides. You can jump off the rocks into the water on the Grote Knip!
