🇮🇹 Le origini di Lignano
Viale Italia è una delle aree più antiche di Lignano. In questa zona a partire dal 1903 vennero realizzati i primi alberghi e stabilimenti balneari, che diedero inizio allo sviluppo turistico della località. All’epoca la penisola di Lignano era quasi interamente disabitata e occupata da pinete e paludi ed era raggiungibile solamente in barca in quanto non vi erano strade. Erano presenti due caserme della Guardia di Finanza per monitorare il traffico marittimo, anche a causa della vicinanza col confine con l’Impero Austro-Ungarico.

🇬🇧 The origins of Lignano
Viale Italia is one of the oldest areas of Lignano. In this area, the tourism development of Lignano begun 1903, with the opening of first hotels and beach resorts. Back then Lignano peninsula was almost entirely unhabitated and occupied by pine forests and swamps. It was only accessible by boat because there were no roads. There were two “Guardia di Finanza” (law enforcement agency responsible for dealing with financial crime and smuggling) stations, aimed at patrolling the maritime traffic, also because of the proximity with the border with the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
