Un pò di storia
La "finestra sulle mura" è uno spazio nel muro difensivo del Polo di Mantenimento Pesante Nord che permette di vedere una parte significativa delle mura farnesiane e alcuni resti del Castello Farnesiano. Questo castello dava il nome alla strada che da Piazza Borgo conduce a Viale Malta. La costruzione a forma di pentagono si trovava a sud-ovest della città, lungo il tratto di mura parallelo alla via XXIV Maggio. Il bastione San Giovanni si trovava oltre l'area accanto all'Ospedale militare di via Palmerio, costruito successivamente, a partire dal 1865. La costruzione iniziò nel maggio 1547 incorporando il bastione di San Benedetto, ma fu interrotta nel settembre dello stesso anno a causa dell'assassinio del duca Pier Luigi durante la congiura piacentina. I lavori furono ripresi subito dopo e completati da Ferrante Gonzaga, governatore di Milano, che il giorno successivo all'assassinio del Duca occupò la città come parte del Ducato di Milano e dell'impero di Carlo V.

A bit of history:
The "window on the walls" is a space within the defensive wall of the Northern Heavy Maintenance Pole that allows a significant portion of the Farnese walls and some remains of the Farnese Castle to be visible. This castle gave its name to the street leading from Piazza Borgo to Viale Malta. The pentagonal-shaped construction was located southwest of the city, along the stretch of walls parallel to via XXIV Maggio. The San Giovanni bastion was located beyond the area next to the military hospital of via Palmerio, built later, starting from 1865. Construction began in May 1547, incorporating the San Benedetto bastion, but was interrupted in September of the same year due to the assassination of Duke Pier Luigi during the Piacenza conspiracy. Work resumed immediately after and was completed by Ferrante Gonzaga, governor of Milan, who the day after the Duke's assassination occupied the city as part of the Duchy of Milan and the empire of Charles V.
