Anemone dei boschi
Anemoides nemorosa. segue per la prima parte l'etimologia del genere Anemone: questo nome è attribuito a Teofrasto significa "fiore del vento" per le fragili corolle variamente colorate che si agitano al minimo spirare del vento. Altri testi menzionano la parola latina anima = "soffio vitale", per la breve vita dei suoi fiori. Altri ancora fanno derivare il nome del genere dal fiume Anemo che scorre presso Ravenna, dove si dice che per la prima volta gli antichi avrebbero scoperto questo fiore. Ma ci sono anche interpretazioni mitologiche: per i greci Anemone era la sposa di Zefiro (vento caldo dell'ovest che favoriva la nascita dei fiori e dei frutti). L'epiteto specifico deriva invece dal latino nemus = "del bosco" con evidente riferimento al suo habitat boschivo.

Wood anemone
Anemoides nemorosa. the first part follows the etymology of the Anemone genus: this name is attributed to Theophrastus and means "wind flower" due to the fragile, variously colored corollas that shake at the slightest blow of the wind. Other texts mention the Latin word anima = "vital breath", due to the short life of its flowers. Still others derive the name of the genus from the Anemo river that flows near Ravenna, where it is said that the ancients discovered this flower for the first time. But there are also mythological interpretations: for the Greeks Anemone was the wife of Zephyr (warm west wind that favored the birth of flowers and fruits). The specific epithet instead derives from the Latin nemus = "of the woods" with evident reference to its woodland habitat.
