Both St. Michael’s and St. Martin’s buildings were rustic churches built for worship and not for display. St. Martin’s little congregation carried on for more than ninety years under the guidance of sixteen pastors. As at St. Michael’s, hundreds of children were baptized, hundreds confirmed, and thousands gathered around the communion tables to partake of the Lord’s Supper and to renew their covenant with God.
During Reverend Morgan’s pastorate at St. Michael’s, changes in social and economic conditions and the merger of the North Carolina and Tennessee Synods led to Pastor Morgan’s suggestion that he lead a re-union of the St. Michael’s and the St. Martin’s congregations. After several years of work and prayer, he succeeded in consolidating the two pastorates into a new congregation as of January 5, 1924, known as Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
We celebrate 100 years as part of Troutman's history.
