Firland Sanatorium opened on May 2, 1911 as Seattle’s municipal tuberculosis hospital. Its goal was to help combat the disease which was Seattle's leading cause of death at the time. Construction started on the English Tudor style admin building July (ab), 1913. King County assumed responsibility of this 34 acre property in 19(cd). After a new hospital opened in 1947, it was rented in 1948 to Martin for $(e) per year.
The old hospital and surrounding property was then transformed into a private Christian school and senior care center.
