Geocache Description:

DC’s Takoma District has many historic sites and buildings that have played an instrumental role in the city’s history. One of these sites is a series of boundary stones that were set down in the original plans for Washington DC. George Washington wanted the capital of the country to be in a place where ships could deliver goods. In fact, the original Washington, DC, included part of what is now Virginia.

Old Town, Alexandria, in VA was an enormously busy port where many ships came through. The original plans for Washington, DC, were to create a perfect diamond shape that was ten miles long on each side. The part of DC that was on the west and south side of the Potomac River is now part of Virginia, but the boundary stones still stand as important pieces of history.

This cache was hidden by students from Breakthrough Montessori Public Charter School, who applied what they learned about the Takoma historic district during outdoor learning programs with Urban Adventure Squad.

___________
