Logperch (Persina Caprodes) are actually pretty common...but are seldom caught. For one thing they are small. This is the first time I've done a Strange Fish geocache where the container is several times larger than the fish it pays homage to! A real trophy specimen might reach 7 inches, but the little guy I caught here in Paint Creek was about half that.
They are nice lookin' fish, with distinctive black stripes on yellow. They are fond of clear, fast running streams but do occur in some lakes. They are considered an indicator of good water quality, being quite sensitive to the sort of fertilizer and manure run off that can happen in farm country.
If you are expecting me to put out a camoflaged "log" cache, sorry. I've done those before and they are pesky to keep up. I've made this one to be an easy cache for beginners; one that showcases a pretty fish caught in a pretty spot. It has a little room for swag and should be a year round park and grab.
Logperch has been on my "must catch" list for a couple of years, so I was very happy to get this little guy.
(note, there was an earlier Strange Fish #7 that is now archived. Different site, different fish. I wanted to keep the number sequence logical in case somebody wants to do the series.)
