Geocache Description:

Tung Shin Hospital (formerly known as Pooi Shin Tong) is a medical institutionΒ  established in 1881, founded by the last Kapitan China (Yap Kwan Seng). Initially started as a traditional Chinese medical centre which later converted into a non-profit private organisation and renamed as Tung Shin Hospital in 1894.

During World War II, Tung Shin Hospital was occupied for military use amidst the Japanese occupation of Malaya. They provided refuge for those seeking medical assistance and shelter during the conflict. In 1950, the premise was return to the hospital management by the British Army.

During 1970s, the hospital entered a new era when they started their western medical department. The existing old building was renovated into a general ward to accommodate the new 13 specialist clinical centres.

Since then, the hospital has been providing more comprehensive western medical services while progressively enhancing their traditional Chinese medicine services.
