Tung Shin Hospital (formerly known as Pooi Shin Tong) is a medical institutionΒ established in 1881, founded by the last Kapitan China (Yap Kwan Seng). Initially started as a traditional Chinese medical centre which later converted into a non-profit private organisation and renamed as Tung Shin Hospital in 1894.

During 1970s, the hospital entered a new era when they started their western medical department. The existing old building was renovated into a general ward to accommodate the new 13 specialist clinical centres.
Since then, the hospital has been providing more comprehensive western medical services while progressively enhancing their traditional Chinese medicine services.
