Geocache Description:

A roadside trig pillar which shows signs of damage caused by hedge flailing.

This Trig Pillar sits on the high ground above the Camel Valley. Over the years it has become engulfed by the hedge and shows some damage due to getting struck by hedge flailing machinery - I would like to think that the flail came off worst!!
The pillar stands on top of a substantial concrete plinth to provide it with the height needed to have line of sight with its nearest neighbours in the triangulation network. The flush bracket is clearly visible.

The pillar is easily seen at the coordinates given as the hedge around it has been cut back, but many motorists must whizz by on a daily basis without ever knowing that it is there.

PARKING

This lane is narrow and can be busy with farming, commuting and business traffic so please take care with kids and geohounds.

My suggesed parking, that does not block business or farming entrances, is given as a waypoint - N 50 29.034 W 004 45.969.

The Pillar is a less than 100 metre stroll down the road at which point you can step off the road into the space on the verge in front of the pillar to find the cache. PLEASE TAKE CARE STEPPING BACK OUT - THE TRAFFIC DOES TEND TO BE FAST ON THIS LANE.

About Ye Ole Survey Monuments

Ye Ole Survey Monument (YOSM) is a captivating series of caches that pays homage to the remarkable legacy of OutForTheHunt's YSM series (GC45CC).

YOSM caches are strategically positioned at or near Trig Points. These triangulation stations have played a pivotal role as surveying landmarks, contributing to the mapping of expansive territories.

Some of these points, bearing historical significance, might now be situated on private land or have vanished with time. As a result, the caches are artfully placed in close proximity, reverently acknowledging the historical importance of these survey monuments.

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the YOSM Website

If anybody would like to expand the Ye Ole Survey Monuments Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.yosm.org.uk
so we can keep track of the numbers and names to avoid duplication.
