Geocache Description:


獅子頭共用栓は「ししがしらきょうようせん」と読みます。

横浜市水道局が1887年(明治20年)に創設された頃、イギリスから600基輸入されました。
近代水道ができた当時は、水道を家庭に引くことは一般的ではなく、ほとんどの家では道路の角などに作られた共同の蛇口から水をくんで使っていました。この共同の蛇口がライオンの頭の形をしていたことから獅子頭共用栓とよんでいました。
現在完全な形で残っているのは水道記念館に展示されている２基だけと言われています。
